Extension and securing of the Petit-Saut site for EDF
EDF Guyane – Systèmes Énergétiques Insulaires — Petit-Saut Dam, Sinnamary
The Petit-Saut Dam is the major structure in French Guiana’s electricity grid: its hydroelectric power station supplies a large part of the coast, from Kourou to Cayenne. Its 90 kV substation carries this energy out to the rest of the territory.
EDF entrusted AK-Architecture with the design and building permit for the extension and securing of this substation: creation of a new high-voltage section connected to the existing installations, reinforcement of the electrical protection systems, adaptation of the existing building, and a new perimeter fence with secure access.
The challenge is twofold: working on an industrial site in operation without interrupting service, and integrating the new installations into the technical and landscape continuity of the existing substation, with no new footprint on the natural environment. The project helps to make French Guiana’s electricity supply more reliable and supports the grid modernisation led by EDF SEI.
